There is so much to think about while reviewing this painting. The beautiful mountains in the background beckons you to travel the road and see the countryside. But then you may want to stay on the farm awhile. Grandma will be cooking something good. It will be fun to see where the child and mama cat settle in with the kittens. Probably the front porch. You could swing awhile and watch the kittens play. Papa will go back to the field again, because he left the mare in her harness. It might be interesting to watch him plow, or maybe milk the cows. Grandma will cook some of that sweet corn for supper tonight and maybe some cornbread. Fresh churned butter will top it off. The road up the mountain can wait, I'll visit with the family and help with the afternoon chores. Life is slow and simple here but rich and rewarding.
Vivian
History of painting: This painting was a part of the South Carolina National Corridor "The Connection Juried Art Show" in Oct 2008. This exhibit celebrated the connection between the Carolinas and Barbados. Barbados played a pivotal role in the settlement of Charles Towne in 1670's and of the intimate connection of the next 100 years.
Vivian was invited to participate in the show and this painting was the results of that collaboration. Vivian along with other SC artists were chosen to participate and their paintings toured in the Carolinas and Barbados with this exhibit. (Original painting is no longer available for sale)
