It never gets old. Seeing deer grazing peacefully in my pastures either early morning or right before dark. The sweetest thing in the world is coming onto a newly born fawn in the woods. They have no smell. They lay very still. You could almost stumble on one except you watch where you place your feet so not to step on a snake! Mom is not too far away, but the youngster cannot move fast enough to flee from danger, so mom leaves long enough for food and water. The babies in this painting are old enough to run with mom if needed. She takes them out to teach them to forage for food and learn how to survive. This doe has double responsibility, as she birthed twins!
