I painted this from a photo I took many years ago. My middle and late twenties were used up raising children and horses. The same philosophy works for both. I allowed my mares and their foals outside the fence and into a barnyard area that contained a creek and a lot of grass the mares could enjoy. This was great training for the foals as they had to cross a bridge to follow their mothers to the grass. I had daylilies planted in several places. This little filly decided they were the perfect place for a rest while mom grazed.
